When I was shopping for a weight machine I could find no reviews on the G8I. Now that I've used one for a while I thought I should provide one.



I was first attracted to the G8I because of its size. At 6'6" many machines are too small for me. This one isn't. It feels right for me. Assembly is straightforward and pretty intuitive. I use it for circuit training; 5 sets of 15 reps- one set of each of four pulling exercises straight through without rest periods alternating with 10 minutes treadmill first day; five sets of four pushing exercises punctuated with treadmill second day followed by rest days. Four sessions per week. The machine works very well for this. adjustments are made very quickly and easily. The machine does not interfere with the momentum of the session. The actions are smooth and silent. The machine handles almost everything I need very well including deadlifts. The one exception is squats (I don't have space for the optional leg press), which I do with free weights. I don't mind. I still like the feel of free weights.



Overall I'm impressed with the machine. Oddly enough, I find myself actually fond of it.



Update: I've been using the machine for seven weeks now. No problems. Nice machine.

The Body Solid G9S is an exceptionally well-made home gym but it is only as good as the person who assembles it for you, if you cannot do so yourself. Not knowing any better, I bought the gym online and upon the recommendation of the seller hired an out-of-state company with local technicians to assemble it. I highly recommend purchasing this item in a brick-and-mortar store that can assemble it properly and provide you with a warranty for the assembly. The problem that I'm having is that the pin does not insert easily and the unit emits a clanking sound when I use one of the weight stacks. The other weight stack works well. I called a local merchant upon the advice of Body Solid and they wanted $450 to inspect and lubricate the machine. Granted that this also covered any necessary repairs, with the exception of parts, and warranted the work for a year, but that is about what I paid to have the darn thing assembled. So I decided to use it as is and wait until the problem worsened (if it did) to the point I could no longer use it and then have it repaired. I am, otherwise, enjoying this product immensely and highly recommend it. Well worth the price.

This unit is very heavy gauge metal and extremely durable. It is comparable to professional Gym equipment. Assembly was a bit tedious, as the directions were a bit lacking. Just diagrams to go by. Assembly took 2 people about 4 hours but was well worth it. This is a excellent cable column for the price.

This home gym was even more than I expected in quality. Having not seen the product in person, I relied on descriptions of the type of construction and compared to similar price points. I saved several hundred dollars over local venues AND got free shipping (which was around $300-500 locally). It arrived within a few days, which is extremely fast. The assembly is a bit time-consuming with a lot of small parts...follow the diagrams! I would recommend this home gym to anyone and the experience with Amazon was great!

The home gym is a winner - good assembly documentation, well-constructed, easy to use (although only been using it for a week). One of the large frame items was manufactured poorly and Body Solid replaced it within one week without any questions.



Be aware of the vendor - Big Fitness. After purchasing, I realized that the shipping company was freight shipping, not one of the recognized shippers such as UPS or FEDEX. There are all kinds of restrictions on shipping (e.g., drop the shipment at the curb, unload yourself, etc.). And the shipping company called twice to reschedule and the system was delivered 1 week later than originally scheduled.



Big Fitness wasn't particularly helpful about shipping issues and the customer service person was rude. Big Fitness also offered no help on the poorly manufactured part, washing their hands of everything after the sale had been made.

The EXM4000s gym is an excellent product. The structure is extremely solid and the motions are fluid. The service from Body Solid is outstanding and I do not make this statement lightly. All of my questions were timely answered and they were proactive in my interactions with Amazon. Assembly is required for this product so be ready to dedicate some time and patience and have a friend available to help. There are instructions but not directions. By that I mean that there are diagrams and inventory lists but no step by step instructions. One word of advice, do not put on any pulleys until you are ready to install the cables. You will enjoy this product.

I have purchased Body Solid machines in the past. To me, a product is only as good as the company who backs it as things do tend to go wrong. I moved and left a large unit in the old house. I decided instead of one large unit, I would purchased many smaller stations. I purchased this unit, I started putting it together and one cable was not right. It had just a bare wire at the end. I saw it was not right so I called Body Solid's toll free number. I assumed I would get a run around. However, I described the problem to the technician and he understood right away that the cable was not right. He said they would send another right out via UPS. Again I assumed that it would take weeks. That was 1/14 and it arrived Tuesday 1/19. It might have arrived sooner but Monday was a holiday. I like a company that when you purchase the product you are not alone if something goes wrong. As for the directions, I had no problems putting the unit together. The key is to first take the time (took me about 1 hour) to identify all the screws and pieces by size using the directions. I put each in piles. Also have all the tools you need also in the directions. Then begin assembly. Remember to go slow and check to make sure you followed the steps correctly. Once you assemble most of the frame and when the directions call for the weight stack, you might want to decide where you want the machine exactly as it can be difficult to move once you put the weights on. I hope this review helps.

I just received my Bowflex Revolution FT and it is a good product. Well made and easy to assemble. Footprint in reasonably small so it can be used in smaller areas. It is very quiet during use and quick to change weights and positions. My only concern is that this equipment is made in China. I bought this Bowflex Blaze for my 16 yr old son for Christmas. I looked on Bowflex.com and their machines were as high priced as $2500. I didn't want to overspend on an expensive machine and then find it just sitting there not being used. I decided that because my son was just starting out, we would go with one of the cheaper models. There were 3 models I considered buying. They all seemed to offer alot for a beginner. After doing some online research and reading other reviews, I had considered the Bowflex Blaze, the Bowflex PR1000 and the PR3000. I noticed that the PR1000 could not be upgraded and the PR3000 could be upgraded by 100 pounds. The Bowflex Blaze became my choice because it can be upgraded twice up to 410 lbs. I also called a representative at Bowflex and discussed the different models with him. I noticed that they didn't sell any of these 3 models on their web site. He said that they will still carry replacement parts for quite a while if needed. Atleast a few more years. He told me that one difference is that the Blaze, being an older model, was not quite as compact if you wanted to fold it up. I did some measuring and there is not that much difference at all. The Blaze is taller by a foot or two.

I also liked the fact that the Blaze came with the pull down bar at no additional cost. The other 2 models did not. I bought the Blaze and we absolutly love it. The seat can be moved 3 different ways. A lay down position, a sitting position, and you can turn into a rowing seat. It slides back and forth.

When I ordered it from Amazon, I also ordered the first 100 lb upgrade at the same time. I really don't see where you would put a second upgrade like I had read but I am not worried about it right now because we have not even put the first upgrade on. None of us need that yet. There is no way any of us can pull all this weight yet. You can really do alot with this machine. I am extremely happy with my choice. I spent just under $800 and got the machine, the upgrade, and free delivery to my house. It is beautiful. My research fully paid off. You get more than what you pay for, that is for sure. Ordered "New" Bowflex from Amazon end of Dec. When we started to assemble it after holidays, we noticed a part missing--Lat-Pull-down. I called Customer Service several days ago. They indicated they could not send only the part,but would re-issue another Bowflex & I would return this one.

I do not see anything in "My Orders" nor do I have any e-mails with an update.

I am extremely dissatisfied & feel that I am stuck with this expensive item. I would like to get it resolved.

My wife has been wanting to buy a Total Gym for some time now, and we're glad we waited, because the Total Gym 1800 seems a bit better than the 1700 for a very similar price. We had a hard time finding enough info on the 1800 but decided to take a chance. Although we're not familiar with the 1700, there doesn't seem to be anything "missing" and the 1800 does include a few extras such as larger glide board, and ab boards. It also has leg pulley kit, one foot harness, dip bars, press up bars, and the wing accessory, many of which I think are included in the 1700 as well.



Pluses: Convenient and easy to exercise many different muscle groups, compact and reasonably priced. Adults and older kids can use it comfortably. I don't find it difficult to make adjustments even raising and lowering, but may be difficult for people who weigh only 100 lbs or less.



Minuses or things that may take some getting used to:



(1) Lot of adjusting required. Different exercises require different attachments, some of which get in the way of each other so you don't (can't) have everything permanently attached. At least with the hitch pins it's easy. What's not so easy is adjusting the effort level, because the only way to do this is by raising or lowering the glide table so it's inclined at a different angle (all exercises require raising your body on the glide table, at a steeper angle this requires more effort). So where I've started is level 1 (easiest) for a few exercises, then I adjust to level 3 for a couple of other exercises. While I do expect to get stronger at the level 1 exercises, I kind of doubt that I'll ever be at the same setting for all exercises.



(2) Mechanical design leaves something to be desired. (a) I have yet to find a good place to keep the handles when not using them so they just kind of rattle around on the floor. (b) There's a safety hitch pin, but either I'm not using it right or it doesn't fit well - there's a hole it seems it should go in, but it either goes in cockeyed or it bangs up against the main spring loaded pin that holds one end of the glide table up. (c) There's a velcro pad on one of the rails, the pulley fitting rubs against this and it's going to come off sooner or later. (d) There's a foam pad that goes under the unit. But when you raise or lower the glide table, the distance between the feet changes and the foam pad shifts around. Minor nuisance keeping the unit on the foam pad, I'm inclined (no pun intended!) to get a nice big plywood sheet and keep the Total Gym on that. (e) Depending on the attachments in use, the plastic-sheathed cable may rub on the attachment.



(3) At first it was awkward getting started with each exercise, but I'm getting the hang of it. Seems to help to grab both handles of the rope-pulley and then adjust your body position. And empty your pockets ;-)



(4) Be careful with loose hair. First time my wife tried, her hair got caught in a pulley assembly.



Drawbacks notwithstanding, a good deal for the money.

This was my Christmas gift and my New Year resolution. A friend of mine has a Total Gym and swears by it, but I didn't want to spend that kind of money. So, I bought the Body Works 5000. I was concerned it might be a cheap version of the Total Gym, but it's definitely not. It's sturdy, well built and provides plenty of options for a good work out. I've used it consistently for the first 3 weeks into the New Year and can already see and feel the difference. The only warning is that it does require some assembly and the instructions aren't clear and complete. Other than that, I'm very happy with my purchase because I got a great peice of equipment for an unbeatable price.

After using this Bowflex gym for a few months on a regular basis, the 30 lb rod snapped/shattered. And this was done by a woman who is a senior. I've attempted to have it replaced but with NO luck. I called Bowflex as well as emailed in the receipt twice with a message...all to no avail. The gym is now collecting dust. Based on their inability to back up their guarantee, I don't recommend this gym.
